Oatmeal for Breakfast

One of the hardest aspects of clean eating is breakfast. At least for me. When I wake up in the morning hungry and groggy... I want to eat something quick, easy, and tasty. Ummm.... blueberry muffins (or chocolate muffins), waffles, and donuts come to mind. Eggs and oatmeal do not.

So in my quest for freedom from food, the first thing I must tackle is the breakfast dilemma. I have decided to make oatmeal a breakfast staple for a few reasons. (Oh and I should mention here that I'm talking about raw, plain oats... not the flavored, instant packets that are full of sugar and other chemicals. Check the ingredients... my container of oatmeal says: "ingredients: rolled oats.")

Oatmeal is loaded with insoluble fiber which has a slew of healthy benefits. Oatmeal also provides sustainable energy and has a bland taste, so it can be "doctored up" for edibility!

Here are some ideas to make your morning oatmeal less gaggy:

1. Add diced peaches, strawberries, etc.
2. Add milk for creaminess (splash a tsp of vanilla extract)
3. Add applesauce (natural, no sugar added) and sprinkle cinnamon over the top!
4. I'm trying not to use sugar-free products with artificial flavoring, but I've also ready adding sugar-free pancake syrup can brighten up a bowl of oatmeal.
